North London adoptee peer support group turns 4!

The How To Be Adopted North London peer support group for adopted people turned 4 recently. Initially set up and ran by Claire for two years, with support from Adopt London North and PAC-UK, Rachel and Lindsay have been organising the group for an additional two years now. Legends!

Rachel joined the group in late 2023 as an attendee and was shocked to discover Claire was thinking about stopping the group due to burnout.

Claire remembers Rachel saying, “The group can’t stop! I’ve only just found it!” and true to her word Rachel now emails 50 adoptees every month to remind them of the date and time of the group - of which around eight to 12 come along, depending on work schedules and life etc!

Recently described by Lindsay as “the fourth emergency service”, the HTBA North London gang celebrated with a Christmas meal at the Clissold Arms, winner of best community pub in London 2025. The meal was kindly sponsored by Tatlers estate agency for the third year! Thank you so much to Tatlers and the Clissold Arms for all your support and generosity.

It’s brilliant to have this space to meet at what can be a tricky time for adoptees whether they are in reunion with birth/first family or not. Big hugs to you all.

if you want to find or set up a HTBA group for adoptees near you, check the list of locations or get in touch with Claire.
